As a Freight Handler, you will play a vital role in the efficient movement and handling of freight within a warehouse or distribution centre, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
To join our team, you must be comfortable with the following:
- Load and unload freight from trucks, trailers, or containers, using manual labour and appropriate handling equipment.
- Sort and organise incoming and outgoing freight, ensuring proper segregation and storage based on size, weight, and destination.
- Utilise forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment to move and transport freight within the warehouse.
- Accurately label and tag freight for identification and tracking purposes.
- Conduct thorough inspections of freight for damage, reporting any issues to supervisors and documenting accordingly.
- Assist in inventory management tasks, including cycle counting, stock rotation, and conducting physical stock checks.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to optimise warehouse processes and ensure efficient operations.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling practices.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, including sweeping, disposing of waste materials, and adhering to sanitation standards.
- Follow company policies and procedures, including compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
To be eligible, you must have:
- Experience: Previous experience as a Freight Handler or in a similar role within a warehouse or distribution center.
- Physical Fitness: Strong physical stamina and the ability to lift, carry, and move heavy freight safely.
- Equipment Efficient: Proficiency in operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment (valid certifications preferred).
- Freight Handling Process: Familiarity with freight handling processes, including loading, unloading, sorting, and labelling.
- Attention to Detail: Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in sorting, documentation, and inventory management tasks.
- Organisational Skills: Excellent organisational skills to maintain an efficient workflow and manage multiple priorities.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
- Safety Guidelines and Procedures: Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety guidelines and procedures.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required by the job.
- Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills for data entry and use of inventory management systems.
