As a Heavy-Duty Fitter, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing heavy machinery, equipment, and vehicles used in construction, mining, and industrial settings.
To join our team, you must be comfortable with the following:
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy machinery, trucks, excavators, loaders, and other equipment to ensure optimal functionality and reliability.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy machinery. Identify root causes of problems and implement effective solutions to minimise downtime.
- Repairs and Overhauls: Carry out repairs and overhauls of mechanical components, engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems. Replace faulty parts, bearings, belts, and other components as necessary.
- Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to proactively address potential issues and extend the lifespan of heavy machinery and equipment.
- Welding and Fabrication: Perform welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify equipment components as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, labour hours, and repairs performed. Complete required paperwork and digital documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures while working on heavy machinery. Follow safety protocols to ensure personal safety and the safety of colleagues and equipment users.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and team members regarding equipment status, repairs, and maintenance schedules.
To be eligible, you must have:
- Experience: Proven experience as a Heavy-Duty Fitter or Heavy Equipment Mechanic, with experience in maintaining and repairing heavy machinery and vehicles. Experience in construction, mining, or industrial environments is preferred.
- Trade Qualification: Possession of a relevant trade qualification, such as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic certification, is required.
- Technical Skills: Strong mechanical and technical skills with a deep understanding of heavy machinery components, systems, and diagnostics. Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairs is essential.
- Safety Consciousness: Demonstrated commitment to safety, with knowledge of relevant safety regulations, procedures, and risk assessments related to equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Welding Skills: Proficiency in welding and fabrication techniques to repair or modify equipment components as needed.
- Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Ability to convey technical information clearly.
- Adaptability: Willingness to work in different environments, adapt to changing work schedules, and work extended hours or on-call as required.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues, analyse situations, and develop effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate diagnoses, repairs, and documentation.
